She Remembered Me

(C) Google images

After a long day at work, I was on my way out when I met one of my students from last year’s kindergarten group (5-6-year-olds).

As soon as she spotted me through the glass, she ran through the doors to say hi. It was so lovely to see her.  She had been painfully shy when I first met her, but over time, she came out of her shell. By the final day of her early years journey, she even stood up and gave a presentation. Now, here she was, continuing to grow in confidence and blossom. We chatted for a bit about how long her hair had grown. She told me she’s 7 now, and I said I loved her dress. We said goodbye, and I went on my way.

Now, that’s not the best part…

I stopped again to say hi to another student from last year, when one of my colleagues from the non-teaching team caught up with me and said, “Hiiii! I’m so glad I caught up with you. I was wondering if I could because you have such long legs 😝.” Anyway, she told me she’d overheard the little girl I’d been talking to tell her mum how happy and excited she was to see me after such a long time. She thought it was so cute that a child felt that way about a teacher and wanted to share it with me. It made my teacher heart so happy and I thanked her for sharing.

I really do miss teaching very young learners. Soon, I’ll write about why I think they’re the best group to teach. For now, I’m simply grateful to know that I made a positive impact and that she remembered me so fondly.

I wasn’t sure whether this little moment was worth writing about, but it felt like the kind of heartwarming teacher story worth sharing.

Dear teacher, keep giving it your best shot. Your students may not always tell you what your presence means to them, but they remember.

Thanks for stopping by. See you next post.
